SHREK THE MUSICAL Will Come to Cumberland County Playhouse

Beginning June 19, the Cumberland County Playhouse will present Shrek the Musical, bringing all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage and proves there's more to the story than meets the ear.

In this hilarious fairy-tale adventure that's perfect for the whole family, a grumpy ogre named Shrek sets off with a wisecracking donkey to rescue a feisty princess who doesn't exactly need saving. Add a pint-sized villain, a cookie with an attitude and a kingdom of storybook outcasts, and you've got a mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's one on hand.

Returning to the Playhouse stage are Noah Sowalskie (Elf) starring as Shrek with Téa Doherty (Elf) as Princess Fiona. Also returning are Playhouse favorites Michael Ruff (Walking Across Egypt) as Donkey, Caleb Sager (Sh-Boom! Life Could Be a Dream) as Lord Farquaad and Phoenix Aura Woods (Hairspray) as the Dragon.

They are joined on stage by a cast of fairy tale favorites including Logan Purcell (Hairspray) as Pinocchio, DeAnna Helgeson (The Marvelous Wonderettes: Dream On) as the Sugar Plum Fairy/Gingy, and Kyra Crosby (The Wizard of Oz) as the Ugly Duckling and Teen Fiona. Also featured in the cast are Connor Adair (Elf) as Papa Bear/ Papa Ogre, Carson Brown (Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer) as Sticks, Jack Catena (Hairspray) as Peter Pan, Robin Houghton (9 to 5) as Straw, Mary Humphrey (The Marvelous Wonderettes: Dream On) as the Wicked Witch, David Kappel (Hairspray) as the Mad Hatter, Julia Peasall (9 to 5) as the Shoemaker's Elf, Kwincy Pierre (Hairspray) as the White Rabbit, Caitlin Schaub (The Miss Firecracker Contest) as the Evil Queen, with newcomers Arrione Magee as Humpty Dumpty, Nathan Mann as the Captain of the Guard, Damari Padilla as the Big Bad Wolf, Coleman Stoltenberg as Bricks, and Ava Whitaker as the Fairy Godmother/Mama Ogre. Playhouse T3 students Evan Lisic (The Lion King Jr.) star as Young Shrek/ Dwarf with Alyssa Aytes (The Wizard of Oz) and Lydia Sias (White Christmas) sharing the role of Baby Bear and Young Fiona. Cameron Collins (Hairspray) is the Swing.

Shrek the Musical is directed by Playhouse Artistic Director Britt Hancock (Hairspray), with choreography by Jensen Crain-Foster and music direction by David Garrison and Jacob Miller.  Shrek the Musical runs on the Mainstage through August 9 and is rated PG.
