An Addition of One is a solo one-act play written and performed by Shannon A. Mullen, telling the true story behind Jamie Wyeth's controversial 1967 posthumous portrait of President John F. Kennedy. The play conjures Wyeth's memory of having met President Kennedy in the form of an informal conversation between the two men, drawn from Mullen's personal conversations with the artist and the historical record. It also features Wyeth's 1963 portrait of pioneering cardiologist Helen Taussig, and underscores parallels between the 1960s and the present era of social and geopolitical upheaval. Opening night on July 31 will be followed by a Q&A with Wyeth, with subsequent post-show Q&As featuring artist Rob Shetterly and photojournalist Samantha Appleton.
