Mad Horse Theatre to Premiere DIGBY'S HOME, 3/24-4/10

By:

Mad Horse Theatre Company is proud to present the world premiere of DIGBY'S HOME by award-winning Maine playwright Brent Askari, directed by Christine Louise Marshall.

In this smart, sweet comedy, Digby Preston, an aspiring prop comic, comes back to his small Maine town after his first national television appearance, hoping to finally gain the validation he felt he never received growing up. Things don't quite work out as planned.

First presented at Mad Horse in their BY LOCAL new play reading series, DIGBY'S HOME is the work of award-winning playwright and Mad Horse Company member Brent Askari. Mad Horse proudly presents this wonderfully funny, accurate examination of the age-old question: Can you really ever go home again? Especially if home is a small town in Maine.

Brent Askari has had plays produced in Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Connecticut, Maine, and Washington, DC. He was part of HBO's New Writers Project and has been a finalist in the Samuel French Short Play Festival, Boston Theatre Marathon, Louisville 10-Minute Play Competition, the Reva Shiner Comedy Award, and the Mountain Playhouse International Comedy Playwriting Contest. He has sold several screenplays to companies including Paramount Pictures, MTV, Marvel Films, Reveille Entertainment, Our Stories Films, Artisan Entertainment, and Langley Films. He is the author of the novel Not Ready For Prime Time (Carroll&Graf) and is currently working on a new book.

Askari has performed in numerous Mad Horse productions, including TREVOR, LYSISTRATA, A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE, and BENGAL TIGER AT THE BAGHDAD ZOO. He also narrates the nationally syndicated television program Animal Science, which was nominated for a national Daytime Emmy Award in 2014 for Outstanding Children's Program.

He is the creator of Mad Horse's popular BY LOCAL reading series and runs it with Company member Tootie Van Reenen. According to Mad Horse Theatre Artistic Director and director of DIGBY'S HOME, Christine Louise Marshall, "Brent Askari is an incredibly nimble and nuanced playwright. He is also very modest. Though he has worked so hard through BY LOCAL to advocate for other playwrights, it has taken Mad Horse a very long time to convince him to mount one of his own wonderful plays. For my part, I have laughed non-stop throughout this rehearsal process. Anyone who has survived the effort to work, dream, and carry on affairs through a long Maine winter will see their own struggle in this incredibly funny, human play."

The cast of DIGBY'S HOME includes Mad Horse Company members Christopher Price, Marie Stewart Harmon and Nick Schroeder, along with Guest Artists David Butler, Christopher Holt, and Lisa Boucher Hartman.

The design team includes Janice Gardner (Production Manager), Andrew Hesselbart (Stage Manager), Maiki Saito (Assistant Stage Manager), Christine Louise Marshall (Set Design), Saskia Giramma (Lighting Design), Jake Cote (Sound Design), Anna Halloran (Costume Design), and Stacey Collins (Graphic Design).
