Highlands Latin Schools Drama Troupe presents The Sound of Music. The Sound of Music is the true story of the von Trapp family, living in Austria on the eve of the Anschluss (the annexation of Austria by Germany) in 1938. Maria, played by Whitney Leonard, is a young postulant at an Austrian abbey who is searching to know God's will for her life, but Maria struggles to fall in line with the life of a nun. In an effort to solve the problem, the Mother Abbess, played by Meg Booker, assigns Maria as a governess to the von Trapp family of seven children, whose father is a widower. Still mourning the death of his wife, Captain Georg von Trapp, played by Ethan Frizzell, maintains strict marching orders and rigid routines for his household. Sadly, he no longer allows for any music to be sung. But Maria's heart is always full of music. She defies the Captains orders and shares her love of music with the seven children by teaching them to sing. It is the sound of music that finally allows hearts to mend, encourages love to grow, and imparts the courage needed to climb difficult mountains. The Sound of Music is a Rodgers and Hammerstein musical that includes some of the most loved songs ever, such as Edelweiss, Climb Evry Mountain, and My Favorite Things. The HLS Drama Troupe of over 80 students and staff, accompanied by a 14-piece professional orchestra, is excited to share this heartwarming story!
