Kentucky Opera opens its 2026-27 season with Rossini's comedy, marking General Director and CEO Ben Robinson's directorial debut with the company. The production sets the story in an over-the-top 1980s day spa and wellness center, using the setting to underscore the opera's physical comedy. Count Almaviva falls in love with Rosina, the ward of Dr. Bartolo, and enlists the help of Figaro, Seville's resourceful barber, to win her over through disguises, schemes, and mistaken identities. The plot and dramatic structure of the original opera remain intact despite the reimagined setting.
