Lucinda Williams is a three-time Grammy-winning American rock, folk and country music singer/ songwriter from Louisiana. In 2002, she was named "America's Best Songwriter" by Time. Returning to the Brown Theatre with music from her latest release, Blessed, Williams reasserts her position as an artist capable of offering a guided tour of life's dark clouds while still able to home in on the silver lining.
She found her first great success in 1998 with Car Wheels on a Gravel Road, an album that presented a broad scope of songs fusing rock, blues, country, and Americana into a more distinctive style that still managed to remain consistent and commercial. It went gold and earned Lucinda a Grammy while being universally acclaimed by critics.
Williams is a favorite of other artists. Her songs have been recorded by Tom Petty ("Changed the Locks"), Emmylou Harris ("Sweet Old World"), John Mellencamp ("Lafayette") and Mary Chapin Carpenter ("Passionate Kisses"), and featured in soundtracks like The Horse Whisperer ("Still I Long for Your Kiss"), True Blood ("Lake Charles"), The L Word ("Those Three Days"), and The Sopranos ("Are You Alright?").
