THE MAN, THE MYTH, THE 1960S PROVOCATIVE BLACK AMERICAN PLAYWRIGHT AND POET: Considered highly controversial ( for his black nationalist's views ) as well as highly skilled as a dramatist, the late and acclaimed 1960s African-American theatre contributor Le Roi Jones ( Imamu Amiri Baraka ) earned a 1964 Obie Award for Best American Play for his searing and powerful racial drama "The Dutchman." Darryl Maximilian Robinson earned a 2001 Chicago Black Theatre Alliance / Ira Aldridge Award nomination ( The Lloyd Richards Award ) for Best Direction of A Theatrical Production his 2001 Excaliber Shakespeare Company of Chicago revival staging of Jones' / Baraka's play.
