This June, the Hollywood Fringe Festival shines a light on the raw, darkly funny, and heartbreakingly human story of Dolores, a one-act play by Edward Allan Baker. Starring Davonna Dehay and DeeDee Woche, staged at the Stephanie Feury Studio Theatre (5636 Melrose Ave.), Dolores runs for seven performances.++* Set in 1985 Rhode Island, Dolores follows a woman fleeing her abusive husband as she turns to her sister for help—sparking a raw, tense conversation that unearths their strained relationship and shared pain. This gripping two-hander explores the explosive reunion of Sandra and Dolores as they confront cycles of domestic violence, buried trauma, and the unshakable ties that bind—even when breaking free feels impossible. Starkly real yet laced with dark comedy, Dolores holds a mirror to the quiet battles many women face—across generations and geographies—behind closed doors. Written by Edward Allan Baker. Directed by Stephanie Feury. Produced by Davonna Dehay. Co-Produced by DeeDee Woche. Starring Davonna Dehay and DeeDee Woche. Performances: This production of Dolores brings fresh urgency to a timeless story of trauma, resilience, and reluctant connection. A minimalist setting heightens the emotional stakes, making every glance, silence, and outburst land with devastating clarity. Director Stephanie Feury adds, "I was immediately struck by the raw honesty and emotional depth of Dolores. It’s a powerful portrait of two sisters navigating trauma, loyalty, and the complicated love that binds family together. As a woman and a sister, this story resonates deeply with me. It’s about survival—not just in the face of violence, but in the everyday struggle to be seen and heard." “This is a story about the pain we inherit, the truths we bury, and the moments where love feels like survival,” says Davonna Dehay. “It’s about the bond between sisters, and what it costs to keep carrying each other.” For DeeDee Woche, "Dolores" speaks to deeper societal themes. "Edward Allan Baker wrote about taboo topics in an era when women quietly suffered to maintain their image and preserve their families. These characters have such a will to survive in unspeakable circumstances, yet the cycle of trauma continues because they cannot escape the pain of their upbringings. The way he weaves humor into tragedy makes these characters deeply human, and I knew it would be an honor to help bring this to life." Dolores isn’t just a play—it’s a visceral, emotional experience that lingers long after the curtain falls. For everyone who deeply values human storytelling—from theater lovers and women to sisters, mothers, and East Coasters alike—this unforgettable exploration of family, trauma, and redemption unfolds in an intimate and emotionally charged production. Don’t miss the chance to witness a story that speaks to the quiet battles so many face. Get your tickets now and be part of the conversation. About the Creative Team: Davonna Dehay (Dolores) is thrilled to return to the Hollywood Fringe Festival stage, where bold new work and fearless storytelling thrive. Originally from Tomball, Texas, Davonna is a dynamic and versatile actor whose work spans theatre, film, and commercial media. Theatre audiences may recognize her from standout roles in Baby Dance, Killer Joe, Outside Mullingar, and more. On screen, she has brought depth and nuance to recent projects including Static State, Jane, and Heavy Stuff. This production marks Davonna’s fourth creative collaboration with director Stephanie Feury, following their critically acclaimed work on Everlasting (2024) and Stars in the Night (2018), performed in both Los Angeles and New York. With years of training and meaningful creative work behind her, Davonna remains deeply committed to bold, collaborative storytelling and continues to seek out work that challenges, moves, and connects audiences. She is profoundly grateful to Edward Allan Baker for crafting such a raw and resonant piece; to her co-star DeeDee Woche, whose fierce artistry has elevated every moment of this process; and to Stephanie Feury, for her visionary leadership and unwavering mentorship. Endless thanks to those who continue to champion the power of live, local theatre. Stephanie Feury (Director) grew up in the theatre, the daughter of renowned acting teachers Peggy Feury and William Traylor. Her passion for the stage was evident from a young age and led her to NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she immersed herself in New York’s vibrant theatre and film scene, appearing in numerous stage productions, indie films, and commercials. She continued her training with legendary teachers such as Elaine Aiken and Uta Hagen before returning to Los Angeles, where her acting and teaching careers flourished. In 2002, Stephanie founded the Stephanie Feury Studio Theatre, where she has taught acting for the past 23 years and also directed and produced acclaimed works including Orange Flower Water, Dolores, North of Providence, Eddie Kills the President, Bash, Dinner with Friends, This Is Our Youth, …And Love Said, and Silent Cal & Trim. She later formed her theatre company, Firelight Collective, with longtime collaborator Nathan Keyes. Their original, award-winning productions—Echoes of Voices, Nobody’s Darling, Firelight, and Stars in the Night—earned critical acclaim and consistently sold out. Stars in the Night traveled throughout Hollywood and later moved to New York, continuing to push the boundaries of immersive, site-specific theatre. In 2024, Stephanie co-wrote, produced, and directed a deeply personal new work, Everlasting, which had a sold-out run. She is thrilled to be directing Dolores and proud to host the Hollywood Fringe Festival at her theatre for its 15th season. Deedee Woche (Sandra) is an actress and filmmaker originally from Austin. She moved to New York at 20 to train at The Herbert Berghof Studio before studying Shakespeare at RADA and BADA in London. She starred in and produced A Lone Star Love, which premiered at the Oscar-qualifying Austin Film Festival to rave reviews. In 2022, she relocated to Los Angeles, where she trained with Stephanie Feury and met Davonna Dehay. After workshopping Dolores, they decided to bring the play to the Hollywood Fringe Festival, turning that moment into a full-fledged production. About the Playwright Edward Allan Baker (1950–2021) was an American playwright renowned for his gritty, working-class dramas that explore family struggles, domestic conflict, and survival in harsh realities. A Rhode Island native, his work captures the raw emotional intensity of everyday people, often rooted in blue-collar settings. His plays, including Dolores, North of Providence, and Rosemary with Ginger, champion the voices of marginalized individuals—particularly women trapped in cycles of abuse, hardship, and resilience. Baker’s distinctive dialogue and honest portrayal of human relationships have made his works staples in American theater, performed across the country and studied in drama programs.
