Photo Coverage: Upright Cabaret's 'MIGHTY MISSISSIPPI' starring Davis, Smith and Taylor at TOCAP
On Sat, Jan 15, 2011, Chris Isaacson presented Upright Cabaret's second American Icon Series concert entitled "Mighty Mississippi" at Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza's Scherr Forum Theatre starring American Idol star Frenchie Davis (Rent), Von Smith (American Idol) and Rockstar INXS' Ty Taylor (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Cats, Grease).
Celebrating the music of three music icons who found their roots along the Mississippi River, this American Icon Series concert featured the hits of Louis Armstrong sung by Davis, Elvis Presley sung by Taylor and Prince sung by Smith. Backed by a 5-piece band lead by Music Director Todd Schroeder, highlights included Smith's bluesy rendition of "When Doves Cry" and his powerful "Purple Rain," Taylor's heartfelt "Love Me Tender" which he delivered on bended knee to a female patron in the audience, Davis' soulful "What A Wonderful World" and the trio's Gospel inspired finally performance of "Proud Mary."
Upright Cabaret returns to Thousand Oaks on April 9 with "Country Roads" featuring the music of Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash. For the 2010-2011 season, Upright Cabaret's American Icon Series has scheduled performances at Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza in Thousand Oaks, CA and La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts in La Mirada, CA.
