Disney Hall to Salute Broadway Musicals with June Lockhart & Bill Handel, 6/13

Rhapsody in Blue and a "Salute To Broadway Musicals" will highlight the exciting 6th Annual Disney Hall Concert Extraordinaire on Saturday evening, June 13. Actress June Lockhart will be a special guest and KFI radio host Bill Handel will MC. Founder-Conductor Gary S. Greene, Esq. will lead the LA Lawyers Phil, Legal Voices and His Big Band of Barristers. The program will include a fabulous arrangement of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue for orchestra and big band, Leonard Bernstein's Chichester Psalms for orchestra and chorus and "Jupiter" from Holst's The Planets. Show-stopping Broadway songs from The Sound of Music, Westside Story, My Fair Lady, Guys and Dolls, South Pacific, A Chorus Line, Phantom of the Opera, LES MISERABLES and Wicked will make this a program not to be missed. 50% of ticket prices may be tax deductible with 25% of the proceeds benefiting the LA County and Beverly Hills Bar Association foundations for those who cannot afford legal services. Tony award winning star and attorney Michael Maguire, Esq. will be featured in songs from Phantom of the Opera and Les Miz. Jim Raycroft is choral director.

Proclaimed by the City of Los Angeles as "LA's Only Legal Orchestra," the Los Angeles Lawyers Philharmonic was founded by attorney/conductor Gary S. Greene. The orchestra held its first rehearsal on January 19, 2009 with 30 legal musicians_and performed its debut concert on January 30, 2009. Since then, the orchestra has grown to 75 members and performed more than 40 concerts, raising more than tens of thousands of dollars to benefit those who cannot afford legal services and for other charitable purposes.

Greene also organized Legal Voices, and on April 30, 2011, the chorus held its first rehearsal. Three months later on July 30, 2011, they debuted with the LA Lawyers Phil at Walt Disney Concert Hall. Consisting of more than 100 voices, Legal Voices gave a triumphant performance of the finale of Beethoven's 9th Symphony, the Ode To Joy. On that date, the County of Los Angeles proclaimed the Los Angeles Lawyers Philharmonic and Legal Voices as "LA's Only Legal Orchestra and Chorus."

In 2012, Greene formed the award winning Gary Greene, Esq. and His Big Band of Barristers. In the same year, the band participated in the American Bar Association's "Battle of the Lawyer Bands" and was invited to perform in Chicago where they took first place and have been dubbed, "America's #1 Legal Band."

Special appearance by June Lockhart: June made her professional debut at age eight and her screen debut in MGM's version of A Christmas Carol, followed by her Broadway debut "For Love or Money," winning the Tony (known then as The Antoinette Perry Award) in the category of "Best Debut." The overnight toast of Broadway, then went on to become one of TV's most recognizable moms, co-starring in popular series like "Lassie," "Lost in Space" (now celebrating its 50th anniversary) and "Petticoat Junction." One of June's earliest television memories, was her first appearance on "Kukla, Fran and Ollie," in 1953. June fondly recalls one of her favorite TV mom roles (and her first as a grandmother) as Maria Ramirez on the daytime drama, "General Hospital" and June recently appeared in Vanity Fairs TV Mini Short representing TV in the 60's. Included among her other 130+ television credits are Grey's Anatomy, Guns Smoke, The Drew Carey Show, Beverly Hills 90210, Murder She Wrote, Quincy, Falcon Crest, The Colbys, Roseanne, etc. There are currently five stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for the Lockhart family, June was included among the first legendary ladies of stage and screen to have her career inducted into the Smithsonian Institution's first permanent "Entertainment Exhibit," and late last year, the National Aeronautics Space Administration (NASA) presented June with their Exceptional Public Achievement Medal.

Emcee, Bill Handle: William Handel currently hosts two radio programs on KFI in Los Angeles, California. First is KFI's local morning show, in which he comments on current events. The program is one of the top rated morning programs in the Los Angeles market, with more than 1 million listeners. Additionally, he hosts a legal advice show on weekends called Handel on the Law, which is syndicated by Premiere Radio Networks and heard on over 150 stations. Handel's legal show is currently his longest running radio program to date. In early 2010, The Bill Handel Show replaced Dr. Laura when she ended her syndicated show. Both of Handel's shows played across the United States on America's Talk channel 158 on XM Satellite Radio. These musical organizations are where lawyers, judges, law students and legal staff meet in harmony. The members include conservatory graduates, professional musicians as well as some hobbyists who are dusting off instruments they played in their youth. Others are harmonizing using their voices that are more commonly heard in the courtroom than on the concert stage. Nevertheless, the music prevails. The orchestra and chorus perform on a professional level for bar associations, civic and charitable events. They are a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation.
