An evening of original Aztec Two-Step classics and forgotten gems!

Originating from a chance meeting at an open mic night in a Boston folk club in 1971, then lifting the band’s name Aztec Two-Step from a poem by beat poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Rex Fowler and Neal Shulman went on to record four albums throughout the decade on Elektra & RCA Records that left an indelible mark on the musical genre.

As their recording career continued, so did the critical acclaim. In 1986, their indie album “Living in America” was named in Billboard’s year-end critic’s poll and received the New York Music Award for the Best Folk Album. In 1999 they were the subjects of the documentary, “No Hit Wonder” (directed by Long Island's Gary Licker), and in June 2007, Real Simple, a popular national lifestyle magazine, named Aztec Two-Step’s debut album one of the all-time top five classic “folk” albums, along with works by Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, Tom Rush and Phil Ochs.

Aztec Two-Step has been inducted into the New England Music Hall of Fame, and was honored to receive The Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame Distinguished Musician Award. Headliners in their own right, the duo appeared in concert with The Beach Boys, The Band, Bruce Springsteen, Talking Heads, Bon Jovi, Randy Newman, Heart, Donovan, Carly Simon, Bonnie Raitt, Harry Chapin, Jim Croce, Laura Nyro, Richie Havens, America, and so many others.

Following Neal's 2018 retirement, Rex has continued their legacy with his wife Dodie Pettit and their expanded band Aztec Two-Step 2.0, adding new layers of sound to ATS fan favorites and forgotten gems. "The old songs done in Rex's new lineup have brought new life to the music. This truly is a band that people need to experience!" - Ron Olesko, WFDU-FM/Folk Music Notebook.

Aztec Two-Step 2.0 is:

Rex Fowler - acoustic guitar, harmonica, lead vocals

Dodie Pettit- acoustic & electric guitars, keys, vocals (The Untouchable and Enchanted Forest all-girl bands of the 1960s, Principal Dancer for the American Repertory Dance Company, original cast member of Broadway's Phantom of The Opera, as well as CATS and Titanic)

Steven "Muddy" Roues - upright bass, harmonica, vocals (recording artist with The Roues Brothers; has recorded with B.B. King, Bo Diddley, Howling Wolf, Sam and Dave, The Chambers Brothers, Wilson Pickett, John Hiatt, Joe Ely, David Bromberg; band member in the documentary film “The Other Side of Nashville” featuring Carl Perkins)
