Bay Street Theatre to Host TYPHOON RELIEF FOR THE PHILIPPINES Benefit, 11/24

By:

Bay Street Theatre announces TYPHOON RELIEF FOR THE PHILIPPINES, a fundraising night of bands onSunday, November 24 beginning at 7 pm. Suggested donation $25, though any and all amounts are appreciated. All ticket proceeds will be distributed to the Red Cross to aid in helping the victims of the typhoon in the Philippines. Suffolk County Legislator Jay Schneiderman and WPPB radio host Bonnie Grice will co-host the evening. WPPB will broadcast with a live simulcast with a phone bank open for donations.

A tentative list of bands and musicians to date includes LOLA, THE VANDETTAS, NANCY ATLAS, INDA EATON, HOODOO LOUNGERS, RICK DAVIES, JOE DELIA and the THIEVES, GENE CASEY, and more to come. Raffle items are also being secured to help raise additional funds. Crossroads Music has agreed to help with all of the sound gear required for the evening's entertainment, and several restaurants have already agreed to help feed the bands and crew that day.

"We are so pleased how everyone has volunteered to put this together quickly," says Tracy Mitchell, Executive Director for Bay Street Theatre. "Our producer Gary Hygom is always willing to book and coordinate all the bands, clear sets, and do whatever it takes to make these benefit evenings happen. And Jay Schneiderman is always on the phone to me immediately following any large disaster to see if we can work together and provide support from Suffolk County residents to people in need. It's nice to be able to help." Anyone wishing to volunteer can contact Bay Street Theatre's Volunteer Coordinator, Barbara Oldak at barbara@baystreet.org.

Any local residents who may have family and friends in the affected areas are asked to join in the event on November 24th. "The personal stories are important and we want to be sure we are supporting our neighbors and friends who may need additional support at this time," says Schneiderman.

Donations will be accepted at the door. Anyone interested in donating but unable to attend that evening may drop off checks payable to the Red Cross at the Bay Street Box office from now through the evening of November 24th. The Box Office is open Tuesday- Saturdays, 11am-5pm and Sundays from noon-5pm.
