Cirque du Soleil To Celebrate 25th Anniversary With Performance Event At The Grove August 2

By:

After making its mark on the entertainment scene in Las Vegas, Orlando, and cities around the world, Cirque du Soleil has set its sights on Los Angeles for a special day of performances in celebration of the company's 25th anniversary.

As part of the festivities, Cirque du Soleil will descend on L.A. shopping hot spot The Grove on Sunday August 2nd, 2009 to execute six unique performances; each from one of its six resident shows currently lighting up the Strip in Las Vegas.

Admission is free, and performances will begin at 12:30 and will run throughout the afternoon. The order of performances for the day is:

12:30pm: Performance by The Beatles' LOVE as seen at The Mirage

1:00pm: Performance by Mystère as seen at Treasure Island Hotel & Casino

1:30pm: Performance by "O" as seen at the Bellagio

3:30pm: Performance by Zumanity, The Sensual Side of Cirque du Soleil as seen at New York-New York Hotel & Casino

4:00pm: Performance by KÀ as seen at MGM Grand

4:30pm: Performance by CRISS ANGEL Believe as seen at LUXOR Las Vegas

In addition to the performances, a circus play area for children will be on site, along with face painting, jugglers, and other fun activities. There will also be giveaways throughout the day and the opportunity to meet Cirque du Soleil cast members during the afternoon.

Cirque du Soleil is also offering specially priced tickets through October 31 for select Cirque du Soleil performances in Las Vegas. Guests who purchase one ticket can bring a friend for $25. The specially priced tickets can be purchased by calling 1-866-998-4830 and mentioning code "SUMMER".

This special event kicks off an exciting series of events for Cirque du Soleil in the Los Angeles area: Later this year, Cirque du Soleil will return to Santa Monica to present the live touring show KOOZA for a limited engagement starting on October 16, 2009. KOOZA will perform under the Cirque du Soleil trademark blue and yellow Grand Chapiteau (big top) at the Santa Monica Pier.

Following KOOZA's run in Santa Monica, Cirque du Soleil and founder Guy Laliberté will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in late 2010. In 2011, a yet-to-be-titled permanent Cirque du Soleil show inspired by cinema and the history of Hollywood will open at the Kodak Theater in the heart of Hollywood.

From the 20 or so performers the company featured when it all began in 1984, Quebec-based Cirque du Soleil has become a leading provider of quality entertainment with 4,000 employees, including 1,000 artists from some 40 countries.

Cirque du Soleil has thrilled close to 90 million spectators in more than 200 cities on five continents. In 2009, the organization will have 20 different shows playing around the world. The success of Cirque has been recognized with a number of awards, notably the Emmy, Drama Desk, Bambi, ACE, Gémeaux and Félix, as well as the coveted Rose d'or de Montreux.
