Welcome to Southie, a Boston neighborhood where a night on the town means a few rounds of Bingo, and this month’s paycheck covers last month’s bills. Margie Walsh, a lifelong resident of Southie, can’t catch a break. She has just been fired from yet another job, and her landlord and “friend” threatens to kick her out now that she is unemployed. Feeling she has no other opportunities, Margie goes to her old ex-boyfriend, Mike-who is now a successful doctor-looking for employment. After a verbal game of chicken, he reluctantly invites her to his birthday party in the more affluent neighborhood where he now lives with his family. When Mike calls later to tell her that the party has been cancelled, Margie thinks he is lying because he is embarrassed to have her mix with his doctor friends. She decides to go to his house anyway and crash the party. While at his house, several things from the past are revealed, much to the chagrin of all present. In the end, the only hope left for Margie seems to be some good people, if she can only find them.
