COME FROM AWAY to Debut at Kansas City Repertory Theatre

Kansas City Repertory Theatre will present Come From Away, the musical based on the remarkable true story of nearly 7,000 airline passengers from around the world who were grounded in the small Canadian town of Gander, Newfoundland, in the wake of the 9/11 attacks. Playing Sept. 1 – 20, 2026 at Spencer Theatre, the production arrives during the 25th anniversary of 9/11, offering a breathtaking tale of triumph that will leave audiences cheering for the power of community.

With book, music and lyrics by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, and directed by KCRep Artistic Director Stuart Carden, Come From Away reminds us that amid fear and uncertainty, joy and resilience prevail. Through music, humor and heart, this Broadway hit celebrates the power of human connection, shows how kindness can unite us in the unlikeliest moments, and affirms that hope can arise in the most unexpected places.

On the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Come From Away tells the true story of the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, whose 9,000 residents welcomed and cared for nearly 7,000 stranded airline passengers when 38 planes were diverted there in the wake of 9/11. Featuring an eclectic mix of music and an ensemble cast portraying real-life passengers and locals alike, this heartwarming and uplifting musical follows the true stories of the world coming together in a moment of crisis, and celebrates the compassion, generosity and humor that emerged from tragedy.
