Barn Players Community Theatre Announces Barney Award Winners

The Barn Players Community Theatre held its annual Barney Awards Celebration Saturday evening, January 31st; reception preceded the evening's program. Those persons who participated in the 2014 season and volunteers attended the evening's ceremonies.

The Barn Players was founded in 1955 by Earl Altaire, a Kansas City interior designer and theatre devotee, the theatre is nationally recognized and the 2015 season will be The Barn Players 60th consecutive season. The Barn Players theatre is located at 6219 Martway in Mission, Kansas.

The presentation program thanked actors, musicians, production teams and volunteers and included highlight performances from the past season shows. The Barney Awards were presented by Vida Bikales, president of the theatre group. Ms Bikales added: "The Barn Players had 278 people who worked on 11 productions in 2014. This evening is our way of saying 'Thank You' to those who gave their time and talent throughout the last season".

Named Volunteer of The Year was Alecia Stultz of Olathe; she has appeared on the Barn stage and for the last two years prepared the show dramaturgy which hangs in the theatre lobby for each show; she also volunteers where ever she is needed for every show. (PHOTO ATTACHED)

Barney Awards for the 2014 season included: Best Show "La Cage Aux Folles" - Best Director Darren Sextro for "August: Osage County" - Best Actor Dudley Hogue in "La Cage Aux Folles" - Best Actress Anita Meehan in "August: Osage County" - Best Supporting Actor Jake Leet in "Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson" - Best Supporting Actress Courtney Desko in "August: Osage County" - Favorite Cameo Performance Peggy Mall in "Folles" - Best Musical Director Martha Risser for "La Cage Aux Folles" - Best Ensemble Cast "Hair" and Best Technical Achievement Bill Wright (set) "Noises Off".

The 2015 60th anniversary season opens February 27th with the Broadway musical "CATCH ME IF YOU CAN", the story of a teenager who ran away from home, wrote millions of dollars worth of fraudulent checks and posed as a doctor, lawyer and pilot. Tickets are $18.00 and may be ordered on the theatre website www.thebarnplayers.org. Season Flex Passes for all regular 2015 season shows are also available - all six regular season shows for the price of five at $90.00.
