BWW Preview: Spinning Tree Theatre Season Update

Andy Parkhurst the Managing Director of the Spinning Tree Theatre announced the cast for the upcoming 2014-2015 season. The theatrical production company expands their season to four shows for the first time. Spinning Tree will present three Kansas City premieres during the season.

Ghost-Writer comes to the stage of Quality Hill Playhouse from August 22 to September 7. When novelist Frank Woolsey dies mid-sentence of writing his last novel, his secretary continues his work. Michael Grayman directs the cast starting Robert Gibby Brand, Katie Kalahurka, and Jeannie Blau in the first mystery produced by Spinning Tree.

Violet produced on the Just Off Broadway Theatre stage appears from November 6 through the 23. Scarred by her father Violet travels to North Carolina to a televangelist in Oklahoma with hopes of being cured. Based on Doris Bett's short story The Ugliest Pilgrim the score integrates gospel, bluegrass, and Memphis blues. Lauren Braton stars in the Kansas City premiere with Daniel Beeman, Matthew King, Tim Ahlenius, Linnaia McKenzie, Damian Blake, and Devyn Trondson.

Black Pear Sings! a play by Frank Higgins will take stage on the Just Off Broadway Theatre stage from March 5 to 22. Susannah travels the country in 1933 seeking little-known melodies when she encounters Pearl in a Texas prison. She discovers a musical treasure trove rooted in African tradition. Walter Coppage directs the Kansas City premiere starring Nedra Dixon and Vanessa Severo.

The Tony Award winning musical Fiddler on the Roof comes to Spinning Tree Theatre from April 23 to May 10. Performed at the Just Off Broadway Theatre stage the cast includes Gary Neal Johnson as Tevye, Julie Shaw as Golde, and with Megan Herrera, Kami Rodgers, Sara Belhouari, Nancy Nail, Tom Lancaster, and Bob Wearing.
