Position Title: Benefits Representative & Special Projects Manager

Supervisor: Fund Administrator The SDC-League Pension and Health Funds is seeking a Benefits Representative & Special Projects Manager to join our team in our NYC office. The position will report to the Fund Administrator and will be a key contributor in implementing new technologies and process improvements and in supporting plan participants in understanding and receiving their pension and health benefits. Projects include but are not limited to assisting with developing and launching an employer payment portal, and later a participant portal, and streamlining the employer billings, collections, and payment processing procedures. Company Overview:

The SDC-League Pension and Health Funds (Funds or Plans) are two multiemployer trust funds managed by a joint Board of Trustees, comprised of both union and management trustees, that provide pension and health benefits to members of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC). The Plans are maintained and operated in accordance with collective bargaining agreements between contributing employers and SDC and each Plan’s trust agreement and plan document. Both Plans are subject to the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA). Description of Job Duties: Special project work related to the implementation of new systems, portals, sites, or processes:

o Work with the Fund Administrator to develop a payment platform for employers to pay benefit contributions for employment contracts on file.

o Contribute to discussions about project implementation and progress, and brainstorm improvements to workflow

o Help prepare project notes, timelines, and calendar key deliverables.

o Review and analyze data and sample pages, reports, forms, and communications.

o Assist with the testing, rollout, and troubleshooting with employers.

o Support the Fund Administrator in creating manuals of various workflows and procedures for staff to reference. Ongoing Day-to-Day Fund Office Administration:

Pension Fund:

o Respond to participant inquiries for pension estimates in coordination with other staff members.

o Help prepare and send pension applications as participants approach their Normal Retirement Date or Required Beginning Date and upon request.

o Explain pension benefit plan calculations, vesting rules, and benefit options to participants.

o Assist with locating missing participants.

Health Fund:

o Process certain participant health coverage payments in benefits system.

o Assist health plan participants with understanding health eligibility rules and when they qualify for coverage.

o Help with semi-annual enrollment packet mailing for eligible participants and COBRA notices for participants no longer eligible.

o Assist with processing enrollments during semi-annual enrollment period.

Both Pension and Health Funds:

o Attend meetings with staff and communicate with SDC Union Contract Affairs Staff to review employer collections issues and employment contracts needed.

o Assist with collections of delinquent employer payments and with setting these employers up on employer portal for faster collection of late payments once portal has been completed.

o Help with data review and analysis projects as needed

o Assist the Fund Administrator with preparing certain Board Meeting reports, review of minutes, and meeting preparation.

o Learn additional Fund Office operational tasks to support the Fund Administrator and for cross-training. Please note the above description does not cover all duties or responsibilities but is intended to be a general overview. The job description will initially include more special project work and over time shift to supporting the day-to-day administration as new technologies are implemented. Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, mathematics, business or a related field.

At least 3 years of experience with pension and health plan administration, or relevant experience is required.

The ideal candidate would be:

o Detail oriented with strong analytical skills, including data analysis and the ability to interpret benefit plan documents.

o Able to learn, read, analyze, interpret, and apply collective bargaining agreements and contract terms.

o Knowledgeable of multiemployer defined benefit pension plan and health plan regulations.

o Experienced in reconciling numbers and applying and reviewing formulas.

o A strategic thinker with great organizational skills.

o Self-motivated and able to collaborate and work well with a team.

o Proficient in PC skills, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and Zoom.

o Experienced in coordinating project work and tracking multiple deadlines.

o A dynamic learner with strong interpersonal and communication skills.

o Familiar with entertainment industry collective bargaining agreements and experience working with benefits administration systems and payment platforms is a plus. This position requires that the employee be physically present in the workplace during an onboarding period and then during the majority of work days, Monday through Friday 10 am to 6 pm, in order to complete the job responsibilities. A weekly remote workday will be scheduled following a three month onboarding period. The SDC-League Funds are offering a competitive annual salary commensurate with experience ranging from $70,000 to $80,000.
