Experienced Producers Needed for a Staged Reading of "That Jones Boy! or, The Adventures of a Bastard," a Musical Comedy of Manners
English Rose Theatricals
Listing Information
English Rose Theatricals intends to present a staged reading on November 20th at a midtown Manhattan location for an invited audience of industry members as well as a select number of average theatergoers to gauge their reaction to this musical adaptation of Henry Fielding's classic novel, "Tom Jones."
We are aware that there's a jukebox musical knocking around out there, but ours has entirely new and original music. The production is intended to be immersive, allowing 21st century audiences to experience an 18th century theatrical production. A select number of ticket buyers will be invited to attend in period costume.
The estimated budget for the reading (24 hours of rehearsal spread over 2 calendar weeks, 5 hours for the reading itself and a discussion/reception afterwards including a light buffet and drinks) the large cast, stage manager, music director, rental of rehearsal studios and printing of scripts/scores is $100 K.
We are well aware that there is another version--a jukebox musical--knocking around out there, but this one has new and entirely original songs. This is a coming of age story with elements of social satire and farce mixed in, not just a bed-hopping sex comedy.
For the current draft of script and music samples, along with support material:
