Their ongoing conflict escalates when Romo, a Montague, and Juliette, a Capulet, fall in love. The two young lovers exchange secret vows, but within hours a fight has, once again, broken out between the two families. Romo's friend, Mercutio, is killed by Count Capulet's nephew, Tybalt. Romo, outraged over the loss of his friend, fights Tybalt and kills him. Romo is then sent into exile by the Duke. Forced by her father to marry Paris when she is already secretly married to Romo, Juliette takes a potion that will make her appear to be dead. Romo, not having received the message about the potion from Frere Laurent, thinks she is really dead and kills himself before discovering the truth.
