It’s the Real McCoy is set in rural Ireland in 1964 and focuses on the life of 68 year-old Madge Mulloy (Eileen Slevin) who has spent more than 40 years struggling to survive on a small farm with her only daughter Maura. Sadly, Madge has had to live with the fact that her husband Tom (Ollie Rouse) simply vanished within five months of marrying her, without trace. Madge was left to rear her only daughter Maura (Collette McHale) all on her own.

The play centres around Tom’s homecoming and explanation of his disappearance. What unfolds on stage is a combination of high drama, amazing Irish wit and a novel storyline that keeps the audience guessing right to the final minute as to what the final outcome will be.
This is rip-roaring comedy at its best and with fascinating plots and sub plots and some riveting drama its a show not to be missed. There are seven characters in the production with two of Ireland’s nosiest neighbours constantly appearing in Madge’s kitchen, at the most inappropriate moments! Nora O’Hora (Deirdre O'Meara) and her daughter Cora (Mary Marren) definitely add spice to the mix! The local postman Martin Daly is played by Midwest Radio presenter Gerry Glennon and the local curate Fr. Michael McCoy is played by the writer and director Tommy Marren.


This play is written and directed by Tommy Marren who is no stranger to the Hawkswell over many years. His early plays "Band of Gold", "Do You Believe in Toothfairies?" and "The Banshee of Crokey Hill" have all being staged at the Hawkswell and the former North West Radio broadcaster is looking forward to another two packed houses for his latest offering which is getting rave reviews across the province.


With sell-out shows in Claremorris, Tubbercurry, Glenamaddy, Collooney, Kiltyclogher, Belmullet and Ballina already under their belts the cast are looking forward to two exciting nights of theatre at the Hawkswell Theatre where you'll be in tears of laughter all night!!
