VIVA SELENA! Adds Updated Performance Dates From The Sankofa Collective
Star and co-writer Elysa Aguilar leads the one-woman tribute at Stages Theatre in Houston
The Sankofa Collective has announced updated performance dates for its production, VIVA SELENA!, now running May 15-18. All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new dates.
At the heart of VIVA SELENA! is a deeply personal and uplifting story:
Meet Ellie, a young girl who grows up with the Tejano Music queen Selena Quintanilla as her guide, learning about love, loss, and finding her own voice. Through story, movement, and iconic songs, this one-woman tribute concert celebrates the power of music to teach us how to dream, to grieve, and to shine.
Through rhythm, memory, and imagination, the intimate production invites audiences into a world where music becomes a guiding force through life's most defining moments.
"I honestly couldn't tell you the first time I heard Selena's music because she was always there, her music was played at the quinceañera's, weddings, family gatherings, and the songs family members would love to sing," says star and co-writer Elysa Aguilar. "I just remember feeling that connection in knowing Selena's history of being Mexican American and her at times feeling she wasn't Mexican enough or American enough. I remember thinking, I can be exactly who I am and that is enough."
Audiences can expect an immersive, emotionally rich experience filled with Selena's beloved hits, vibrant performance, and a spirit of joy that honors her lasting cultural impact.
