Alley Theatre presents Sherlock Holmes and the Adventure of the Suicide Club. Based on Robert Louis Stevenson's "The Suicide Club" and featuring beloved characters created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Jeffrey Hatcher (Mrs. Mannerly, 2010) crafts a smart new Sherlock Holmes mystery. Having played Sherlock Holmes in The Crucifer of Blood (2009) and Sherlock Holmes (2003), Alley Theatre Company Artist Todd Waite will again play the iconic and illustrious detective in a spectacular, lavish production. While Doyle and Stevenson never met, on April 5, 1893 Sir Arthur Conan Doyle received a letter from Robert Louis Stevenson. Stevenson complimented his "very ingenious and very interesting adventures of Sherlock Holmes." The correspondence sparked a friendship and the two planned to meet the following year. Doyle and Stevenson never met, but playwright Jeffrey Hatcher brings Doyle's timeless heroes into Stevenson's ingenious situations, permitting the authors, through their creations, to come together in the Alley Theatre's production of Sherlock Holmes and the Adventure of the Suicide Club.
In Sherlock Holmes and the Adventure of the Suicide Club, co-directed by Mark Shanahan and Gregory Boyd, dark forces may be manipulating the deaths of prominent men in a plot so far reaching that the fate of Europe is at stake. Sherlock Holmes and the Adventure of the Suicide Club, by Jeffrey Hatcher and based on "The Suicide Club" by Robert Louis Stevenson and characters created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, directed by Mark Shanahan and Gregory Boyd, begins performances May 25, opens officially Wednesday, May 29, and runs through June 23, 2013 on the Hubbard Stage.
