The Buffo's Opera Duo To Open Festival In Greece

The Buffo's, a concert act featuring duets and arias of beloved comedic opera roles sung by Stefanos Koroneos (Captain Michael/Berlin Philharmonic, El Gato con Botas/Gotham Chamber Opera conducted by Neil Goren and directed by Moisés Kaufman, and La Traviata/Bolshoi Theater directed by Franco Zeffirelli) and Adelmo Guidarelli (star of SONY's PS4 Pro Opera National TV Campaign, Operation Opera/Lincoln Center, La Cenerentola/Opera Las Vegas), will be presented September 5, 2018 in Rhodes Greece at the Palace of the Grand Master of The Knights of Rhodes--a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Pianist Frixos Mortzos of the Greek National Opera will accompany them.

Conceived by Koroneos, who has also recently been honing his skills as a director, The Buffo's highlights the comedic contributions that buffo characters bring to the art of opera. Buffo, or Opera Buffa as it is sometimes referred, is an informal description for Italian comic operas which developed in Naples during the early 18th century, featuring characters who sing in the bass-baritone register with an affinity for quick patter and clear diction such as Dr. Bartolo in The Barber of Seville or Don Magnifico in La Cenerentola. "I had the idea of bringing a show to the masses that is focused on the comedic aspects of the operatic repertoire," said Koroneos, "and Adelmo was a perfect fit to join me in this project."

The pair have been invited to present The Buffo's as the opening concert of the Rhodes International Festival in Greece. The Rhodes International Festival was founded in the summer of 2007 by Artistic and Managing Director Penelope Serdari on Rhodes Island Greece with the goal of tapping into the cultural identity of the location, promoting tourism, and sharing the cultural heritage of the island. The festival, which is distinguished by its high artistic level, focuses on classical music, opera, film music, musicals, jazz, tango or latin music shows, and cross over music, as well as Greek music tributes by distinguished composers.

The Rhodes International Festival will run from September 5 to 13, 2018. General Information about the festival is available on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/rhodesinternationalfestival/
