Merely Players Presents (MPP) is a small but mighty arts organization. In 2024, we wrapped our season in the Doraville community center and moved to our new home on King Street, as the City of Doraville began demolition for their planned entertainment district just one block from our new location. MPP has already accomplished so much in terms of connecting audiences and artists throughout the metro Atlanta area, eliciting conversations, promoting thinking, and amplifying a diversity of voices in the Doraville area. We are excited for what is to come. Your investment in our mission would be an investment in diversity and in stories that make audiences examine their lives with greater empathy and understanding towards others.
MPP's mission focuses on amplifying a diversity of voices and eliciting conversations that promote thinking and shared understanding, with:
• Diversity in Casting/Programming: MPP chooses plays that address historic inequities in casting, giving more opportunities for Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC), Asian, and Latinx performers.
• Intentional Programming: MPP chooses productions that provoke dialogue on complex social issues, pushing audiences towards greater empathy and social equity, such as Disgraced (exploring identity and religion) and The Cake (addressing LGBTQ+ values).
• Latinx Representation/Strategic Bilingualism: Forty-six percent of Doraville's population is of Hispanic origin. By staging productions that amplify Latinx voices, such as Real Women Have Curves and Anna in the Tropics (staged in English/Spanish), MPP removes language and cultural
barriers for Doraville’s large Latinx population.
• Economic Vitality for Artists: MPP strives to pay stipends to actors, crew, and staff. By valuing artistic labor, we contribute to the financial well-being of artists in the metro area.
• Civic & Economic Growth: MPP actively nurtures relationships with the City of Doraville and the Arts Council to transform the city into an arts destination, which drives local tourism and encourages overall economic growth.
