The Alliance Theatre's Spelman Leadership Fellowship, launched in 2016 as the first mentorship partnership between a regional theatre and an HBCU, is designed to cultivate Black women and non-binary leaders for top roles in the not-for-profit cultural sector. Spelman College seniors first complete a nine-month paid leadership internship (10 hours per week at $15 per hour) rotating through departments such as arts administration, marketing, development, education, and production; current interns may then apply for a one-year, full-time salaried fellowship tailored to their interests in artistic or executive leadership. The fellowship is restricted to Spelman interns and is administered by the Alliance in Atlanta.
