Equity actors/singers/dancers for various roles and ensemble in the upcoming 2015-16 Season Shows.

Preparation
Prepare 32 bars of a song. Have contrasting song ready if asked. Bring sheet music in correct key; accompanist provided.

Be prepared to dance if asked. Sides also provided at audition & available on the web-site at www.theatrezone-florida.com.

Bring picture and resume, stapled together.

XANADU
Music & Lyrics by Jeff Lynne & John Farrar
Book: Douglas Carter Beane.
1st reh: 9/21/15. Runs 10/1-10/11
(10/1– 10/3, 10/8 – 10/10 at 8pm, 10/3 and 10/11 at 2pm, 10/4 and 10/11 at 7:30pm)

This is a combined production with Florida Gulf Coast University’s Bower School of Music and the Arts and will be performed at the FGCU TheatreLab.

Xanadu - follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, California in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time - the first ROLLER DISCO! (Hey, it's 1980!) But, when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation and chaos abounds.

The 4 Equity contracts available in this production have already been CAST. Actors may be considered as possible replacements if needed

Calliope:
CAST. 30 – 60. Kira’s older sister and fellow muse. She is jealous of Kira and as Melpomene’s sidekick, plots with her for Kira’s downfall. Mezzo.

Danny Maguire:
CAST. 55 - 65. The hard-nosed “all work and no play” businessman who owns the theater he once built for his love, Kira. Used to be a budding artist like Sonny, but has since let money and greed consume him. Baritone.

Melpomene:
CAST. 40 - 60. Kira’s oldest sister. Mother of the Sirens. She is jealous that Kira is the leader of the muses rather than herself, and therefore creates the plot for her downfall. Mezzo.

Sonny Malone:
CAST - 22 - 30. A self-critical and depressed, mortal, chalk artist who falls in love with Kira. Handsome, but not particularly smart. He embodies 1980s pop culture and is very much a California dreamer. Tenor.

Sweet Smell of Success - It's New York, 1952. Welcome to Broadway, the glamour and power capital of the universe. J.J. Hunsecker rules it all with his daily gossip column in the New York Globe, syndicated to sixty million readers across America. J.J. has the goods on everyone, from the President to the latest starlet. And everyone feeds J.J. scandal, from J. Edgar Hoover and Senator Joe McCarthy down to a battalion of hungry press agents who attach their news to a client that J.J. might plug. You can become no one if J.J. turns on you.

25 - 35. - a struggling press agent whose sole client is a nowhere jazz dive, the Club Voodoo. Tony, the owner, gives Sidney and ultimatum. No item in JJ, no job. High Tenor.

Susan:
22 - 30. JJ’s baby sister, A classy beauty in love with Dallas. Soprano.

Dallas:
22 - 30. A hot young piano player in love with Susan. Tenor.

Rita:
25 - 35. Sidney’s waitress girlfriend. Mezzo.

THE BOY FROM OZ
Music & Lyrics: Peter Allen & others, Book: Martin Sherman
1st reh: 1/25/16. Runs 2/4- - 2/14/16
(2/4-2/6 and 2/11 - 2/13 at 8pm, 2/7 and 2/14 at 2pm and 7:30pm)

The Boy From Oz, Peter Allen was born in the outback-Australian town of Tenterfield in 1944. He made his entertainment debut at the age of 5 impersonating Al Jolson. As a teenager he became a pop star and then toured Asia. There he met Judy Garland who took him to London where he met and become engaged to her daughter Liza Minnelli. In the US Peter enjoyed the highs of success by winning an Oscar, selling out performances in Radio City Music Hall, and receiving adulation when he returned to Australia. There were also plenty of lows … breaking up with his wife, staging a Broadway flop, the death of his partner and his own battle with illness. Peter Allen had an extraordinary.

50 - 65. Salt of the earth, Peter’s Mother. Mezzo.

Greg Connell:
30 - 45. A sexy cowboy, Peter’s boyfriend. Tenor.

Dee Anthony/Dick Woolnough:
50 - 65. Peter Allen’s US Agent / Peter’s alcoholic father. Baritone.

INTO THE WOODS

1st reh: 2/22/16. Runs 3/3 - 3/13
(3/3-3/5 and 3/10 - 3/12 at 8pm, 3/6 and 3/13 at 2pm and 7:30pm)

Into The Woods, - The story follows a Baker and his wife who wish to have a child, Cinderella who wishes to attend the King's Festival, and Jack who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

Bakers Wife:
35 - 45. Determined and bright. A romantic at heart, but materialistic at times. Plenty of songs. Good acting skills needed. Mezzo.

The Witch:
40 – 60. Outwardly self-serving, possessive, sarcastic, vain, charismatic. Inwardly: insecure and lonely. Hugely challenging role, strong singing and acting needed. Mezzo

Cinderella:
22 - 35. Earnest, pretty, warm-hearted, kind, and trying to find her place in the world. A survivor. Good singing voice particularly required. Soprano.

Little Red Riding Hood:
13 - 22. A spoiled, clever, vain, smart aleck. Seeks approval in place of love, of which she has had none. Fun character. Mezzo.

Rapunzel:
22 - 35. A loopy-but-lovely maiden who is completely and utterly innocent of worldly matters and drifts through life. Needs good vocal control. Strong legit soprano.

Jack’s Mother:
40 - 60. A single mother and a fighter, working hard and determined to make a good life for her hapless son. Mezzo.

Cinderella’s Stepmother:
40 – 60. Mean-spirited, greedy and demanding. Superb character part. Mezzo.

Baker:
35 – 45. An average working man. Warm hearted and determined but insecure, and has never faced his fears. strong voice needed. Baritone/Tenor.

Jack:
14 – 25. The feckless Giant Killer, almost a man. Eager to please and impulsive. A little slow of learning, and misled by his lack of self-knowledge. A challenging role. Strong legit tenor.

Cinderella’s Price/Wolf:
30 – 45. (Price) Vain, gorgeous, self-dramatizing and endlessly confident. A hero in his own life’s story. (Wolf) Hungry and insatiable. Seductive and sexy. Only two scenes but he could easily steal them both! Baritone.

Narrator:
35 – 50. Intellectual and pleasant. A good storyteller who relates directly with the audience. Baritone.

Rapunzel’s Prince:
30 – 45. Just as vain, gorgeous, etc as his older brother, he Strives endlessly to beat him in all things. Baritone.

DAMES AT SEA
Book: George Haimsohn, Robin Miller, Music: Jim Wise and Lyrics: George Haimsohn, Robin Miller.
1st reh: 4/18/16. Runs 4/18 - 5/8/16
(4/28 - 4/30 and 5/6 - 5/7 at 8pm, 5/1 and 5/8 at 2pm and 7:30pm

Dames At Sea - this campy show is based on the nostalgia of Hollywood musicals of the 30's. It's big time New York, into which sweet little Ruby from a faraway Hometown, U.S.A. has come to make it big on Broadway. Who should she chance to meet but another boy from Hometown, U.S.A.: Dick, a sailor, who also has ambitions as a songwriter. Ruby begins in the chorus, and by the end of the day, in true Hollywood fashion, Dick saves her doomed Broadway show with a smash tune, as Ruby becomes a star on the deck of a battleship which just happens to be passing by.
All cast members must tap dance.

22 - 35. Friend of Dick's, also a sailor, Joan's former boyfriend. Baritone, Tap.
