Breakdown

The Norris Theatre announces auditions for “The Drowsy Chaperone. Part of the Norris Center 3-Play professional season. James Gruessing (Director/Producer), Daniel Thomas (Musical Director), Ann Myers (Choreographer). Auditions will be held February 24 – 25, 2014 at the beautiful 450 seat Norris Theatre in the South Bay area of Los Angeles.

Seeking:

Man In Chair: Male to play age 35-55. Musical theatre aficionado who mourns the end of the Golden Era. His recording of The Drowsy Chaperone brings the show to life as he narrates. Great solid actor needed.

Aldolpho: Male to play age 35-45. European self-proclaimed ladies man; played by former silent movie star Roman Bartelli; Overwrought dramatic baritone (A-sharp 2 to G 4).

Mr. Feldzieg: Male to play age 30-50. Broadway producer who is desperate for his star to return to his show; played by Jack Adler; Baritone (D-flat 3 to D-flat 4).

The Drowsy Chaperone: Female to play age 45-60. Janet’s alcoholic confidante, care-free often because she is drunk. An experienced “woman of the world” who couldn’t care less what the world thinks. A melodramatic diva to be reckoned with who gleefully chews the scenery and steals just about every scene she is in. Alto with strong belt mix (F 3 to E 5 with sustained belt on C 5).

Gangster 1: Male to play age 25-45. Posing as pastry chefs, this duo is intending to collect from Feldzieg; played by the vaudeville duo tall brothers; Character baritone/tenor (D-flat 3 to G-flat 4).

Gangster 2: Male to play age 25-45. Posing as pastry chefs, this duo is intending to collect from Feldzieg; played by the vaudeville duo tall brothers; Character baritone/tenor (D-flat 3 to G-flat 4).

George: Male to play age 35-50. Robert's anxious, dim-witted best man who has Robert's best-interest always at heart; good comedic timing and excellent tap dancing skills. Broadway song-and-dance tenor (F 3 to B-flat 4).
Janet Van de Graaf: Female to play age 25-35. The famous bride, glamorous and talented star of Feldzieg's Follies; played by rising star Jane Roberts; strong movement and special skills (acrobatics, juggling, etc.) a plus. Broadway belt/mix (G 3 to E-flat 5 with sustained belt on C 5).

Mrs. Tottendale: Female to play age 50-60. The air-headed yet proper, and bossy host of the wedding; Character mezzo (G 3 to D-flat 5).

Robert Martin: Male to play age 25-35. The dashing, ever-cheerful groom; played by matinee-idol Percy Hyman, must tap dance, roller skating a plus. “Old-school” musical theatre crooning tenor (C 3 to A-flat 4).

Kitty: Female to play age 25-30. Feldzieg's dim-witted companion who has hopes of being a star; played by Sadie Adler; Character mezzo (B-flat 3 to F 5).

Trix: Female to play age 30-40. The brave and brash female aviator who, by chance, is recruited to perform the wedding; Brassy Broadway alto (A-flat 3 to E-flat 5).
Underling: Male to play age 35-50. Mrs. Tottendale's savvy butler who is thrifty and stiff yet has an understated sense of humor; Baritone (A-flat 2 to G-4).
2 Male Ensemble Members: Men to play age 18-50, good singing, dancing and acting skills.
2 Female Ensemble Members: Women to play age 18-50, good singing, dancing and acting skills.
