ALL CHARACTERS MUST SING!

This is NOT the Frank Wildhorn version of the show. It is a brand new production created for Theatreworks USA, using traditional Civil War era music.

ALL ACTORS ARE SIGNED ON AS ASSISTANT STAGE MANAGERS. Actor/ASMs are required to unload/load, setup and/or strike the set. No single piece of scenery shall exceed such proportions of height or weight as to make it impossible to be carries reasonably by two members of the company.

SEEKING:

Johnny

Late 20s, Tenor. Must have excellent Irish and Southern dialect. Seen the world, heroic, romantic, but with a scrappy quality about him. Also plays the tough as nails Gus, among other characters.

Jackie

Female 20s, Mezzo Soprano. Jackie is scrappy, smart, a tom boy, not willing to sit at home while the war rages on around her. Also plays Kathleen, an Irish immigrant, grounded, romantic. Must have excellent Irish and Southern dialect.

Sarge

30s, Baritone. Military bearing, grounded, good sense of humor, warm; serves as "narrator" playing multiple roles. Must easily connect with audience and be comfortable with a Southern dialect.

Will

Male early 20s, Tenor. Young leading man, sensitive- fighting a war he’s not sure he believes in. Must be very comfortable with Southern dialect. Plays multiple roles.

Zac

Male early 20s. African-American Baritone or Tenor. Smart, scrappy, a survivor, has a good heart. Fights for what he believes in, while never losing sight of the boy within. Plays multiple roles.
