Authoritarian father of Katherine and Bianca.

Hortensio
A suitor to Bianca disguised as Licio the music tutor.

Lucentio
Son of Vincentio. He is in love with Bianca and woos her disguised as Cambio, the latin tutor.

Tranio
A servant to Lucentio. He agrees to pretend to be his master Lucentio.

Gremio
A “dirty” old man; suitor to Bianca.
