BREAKDOWN

PRIVATE EYES
A comedy of suspicion in which nothing is ever quite what it seems. Matthew's wife, Lisa, is
having an affair with Adrian, a British theatre director. Or perhaps the affair is part of the play
being rehearsed. The audience itself plays the role of detective in this hilarious relationship
thriller about love, lust and the power of deception.

Seeking:

MATTHEW
Male (29-39). Any ethnicity. An actor, whose wife was seduced almost literally in front of his eyes. He is shy and unwilling to cause any sort of confrontation.

LISA
Female (29-39) Any ethnicity. Matthew’s wife, who is seduced by Adrian.

ADRIAN
Male in (27-35). Any ethnicity. Matthew and Lisa’s British director. A womanizer who is after Lisa.

CORY
Female (25-30). Any ethnicity. Adrian’s wife who has been looking for him. She originally states that she is just a private eye working for Adrian’s wife. She wants revenge on Adrian in the worst possible way.

FRANK
Male or Female (45-59). Any ethnicity. Matthew’s therapist and the only reliable narrator in the play. He/She often speaks directly to the audience to clarify Matthew’s story. However, doubt is cast upon who he/she really is at the very end of the play. Can be either male or female.

EVERY BRILLIANT THING

You’re six years old. Mum’s in hospital. Dad says she’s “done something stupid.” She finds it hard to be happy. So you start to make a list of everything that’s brilliant about the world. Everything that’s worth living for. 1. Ice cream. 2. Kung Fu movies. 3. Burning things. 4. Laughing so hard you shoot milk out your nose. Soon, the list will take on a life of its own. A play about depression and the lengths we will go to for those we love.

WOMAN or MAN
(35 - 55). Any ethnicity. Good sense of humor and an ease about her to address the audience in a ‘give and take’ throughout the show. Even though she is damaged, she has struggled to reach a certain peace in her soul. She wants to share that knowledge with others (the audience) in the hopes they walk away a little lighter in their hearts or even a little enlightened.
