THE CHER SHOW (Regional Premiere)

Director: TBA

Choreographer: Gerry Mcintyre

Music Director: TBA

1st Rehearsal in Maine: 4/25/22

Open: 5/14/22

Close: 6/25/22

SEEKING:

[STAR] Female Identifying, White, 40’s-50’s. Cher as we see her now. A powerful woman who pushes through the old fears and insecurities to try new things, to be new versions of herself. Incorporates realness/authenticity into her music, her acting and her search for love. Has an excellent pop/rock voice. Vocal Range: F3-D5.

[LADY] Female Identifying, White, 30’s. Cher in her 30’s. Delighted by the power and trappings of stardom yet exhausted by the demands of an over-booked life. She wears her fame and her femininity as naturally as any of the famous Mackie creations - with ease and aplomb. Has an excellent pop/rock voice. Vocal Range: F3-Eb5.

[BABE] Female Identifying, White, late teens to early 20’s. Cher at the early stage of her life. Fiercely independent but insecure about her looks, being “different”, being challenged from dyslexia. Anxious to “get up and get out”, to sing, to act, to be somebody. Seeing Sonny for the first time is her “Romeo and Juliet moment.” Has an excellent pop/rock voice. Vocal Range: F3-E5.

[SONNY BONO] Male Identifying, White, late 30’s-early 40’s. Charming, funny, adorable, ambitious – but capable of being controlling, inconstant and manipulative. He’s the hero and the villain – That’s what makes him interesting, to Cher and to us. Has an excellent pop/rock voice. G3-Bb4.

[GEORGIA HOLT] Female Identifying, White, 40’s. Cher’s mom. Gorgeous, talented and independent. Happy to attach and detach herself from any guy, even the ones she marries. She wants her daughter to be somebody, and she teaches her by example. Always in her kid’s corner, through thick and thin. Has an excellent pop/rock voice. A3-A4.

[BOB MACKIE/ROBERT ALTMAN/FRANK, THE DIRECTOR]: Male Identifying, White, 40’s. BOB MACKIE: The eccentric fashion designer responsible for designing Cher’s outfits for her shows. ROBERT ALTMAN: The famous film and theatre director who casts Cher in “Come Back to the Five & Dime, Jimmy Dean.” Champions Cher’s career as an actress and helps her realize her potential. FRANK: The director of the Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour. Has excellent comedic timing and an excellent pop/rock voice.

[ROB CAMILLETTI/LEE, THE STAGE MANAGER] Male Identifying, White, 20’s-30’s. ROB CAMILLETTI: “The Bagel Boy”. Cher’s young Italian lover, whom she meets later in her life. A sweet stud, with the soul of a poet, and a Sicilian temper. Genuinely loves Cher for who she really is. LEE: The very-harried stage manager for the Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour – charged with keeping everybody happy and everything moving smoothly. Has excellent comedic timing and an excellent pop/rock voice.

[GREGG ALLMAN/JOHN SOUTHALL] Male Identifying, White, 20’s-30’s. GREGG ALLMAN: Known for his success as part of “The Allman Brothers Band”. Starts a romantic relationship with Cher after her split from David Geffen, eventually becoming (briefly) her husband. Strapping, dripping with Southern charm, and smart as a whip. JOHN SOUTHALL: Georgia’s second husband, by whom she had her second child. Eb3-Ab4
