Performers of all ethnic and racial background are encouraged to attend.

Breakdown

PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS:

Singing/acting auditions:
Please prepare one up-tempo song appropriate to summer show. Bring sheet music in the correct key; an accompanist will be provided, but will not transpose. Be prepared to sing a second, contrasting selection if requested. Some may be asked to stay for the dance call. Bring appropriate dancewear and character shoes. Callbacks, if necessary will be held Tuesday April 14 at 7:00 PM.

Dancing auditions:
Please be warmed up and ready to dance when the call begins. Wear appropriate dancewear and have character shoes. NO sneakers. Some may be asked to stay and sing after all have danced. Please prepare 16 bars of a musical theatre song. Bring sheet music in the correct key; an accompanist will be provided, but will not transpose.

All bring a picture & resume, stapled back-to-back.

Seeking:

LOUISE
Female. Early 20’s. Mezzo to Eb. Rose’s older daughter. Shy, awkward, and loyal but eventually becomes the strong and willful world-famous stripper Gypsy Rose Lee. Has to have great depth: Must be comfortable with striptease elements and suggestive, near-nudity.

DAINTY JUNE
Female. Early 20’s to play 16. Belt to D. Rose’s younger daughter. Pretty & talented with a strong will. Splits, high kicks, baton twirling, point work and any other special skills a plus

TULSA
Male. Early 20’s. Tenor. Fantastic song and dance man, trained in tap and ballet, with tons of charisma.

TESSIE
Female. 30’s-40’s. Mezzo. A flighty, wisecracking stripper and Burlesque performer whose specialty is classical ballet. Ballet training a plus but not required.

MAZEPPA
Female. 30’s-40’s. Alto. A tough stripper and Burlesque performer whose specialty is playing trumpet. Ability to play trumpet a plus but not required.

ELECTRA
Female. 30’s-40’s. Alto. An experienced stripper and Burlesque performer who uses light bulbs in her act.

UNCLE JOCKO, et al
Male. 30’s-50’s. Baritone. A strong character actor-singer to play a multitude of character parts.

WEBBER, et al
Male. 30’s-50’s. Baritone. A strong character actor-singer to play a multitude of character parts.

ENSEMBLE: Male & Female. Early 20’s. Strong dancer/singers/actors who look to be teenagers.

The following roles have been CAST. Looking for understudy and replacement only

ROSE
CAST. Female. 40’s. Strong Mezzo belt, Indomitable force of nature. She is at turns domineering, aggressive, sexy, manipulative, charming, and unstoppable in her determination to have her daughters succeed on the stage.

HERBIE
CAST. Male. 40’s Strong actor who sings. A candy salesman who is charmed into being Rose’s agent and becomes her love interest. Herbie appears at times as weak-willed but always has a strong core and will do the right thing.

NOTE: ALL SMALLER ROLES AND UNDERSTUDIES WILL BE CAST FROM THE ENSEMBLE. NO CHILDREN WILL BE SEEN AT THIS AUDITION.
