BREAKDOWN
MWE - Late 20s. Must speak Korean. Female. This character is Korean. The label's legendary solo artist on the decline. Ambitious, deeply insecure, defined by fame - she was raised to be a star and is fully a creature of the pop-machine. She needs a killer voice, charisma for days, and an ocean of subtext — a Wagnerian heroine trapped in a musical. Principal.
JUNY - 30s. This character is Korean / Asian-American. MwE's new boyfriend. A civilian presence
amidst the pressurized, high stakes world of Korean Pop. Loving, supportive, handsome in a down to earth way. He is MwE's escape route. We must fall in love with him. This is a non-singing role. Principal.
RUBY - 40s. Must speak Korean. Female. This character is Korean. The head of the record label, who is now running the operation solo after her husband’s death. A promising singer before the label’s ambitions eclipsed her own, Ruby has grown into a powerful CEO hell bent on guarding her empire. Principal.
HARRY - 30s. An American Sundance sensation who's hired by the label to direct a concert documentary. He's a woke dude, an artist, an auteur. He believes himself to be a humanist, a millennial Martin Scorcese, and a man for whom the work comes before all else. Principal.
EPIC - 20s, This character is Half-Korean, half-American. The newest addition to the group F8 who has given up a career in American music to become a KPOP star. And he is just that, a star. G-Dragon and Justin Timberlake all rolled into one. Shortsighted and narcissistic at times, his attempts at ingratiating himself to the rest of the band come off as horrible clunky. Must be an excellent singer and dancer. Principal.
