Breakdown

ANDY
Early to mid-30s. Caucasian. B's mom, but not particularly maternal, still figuring out how to take care of herself. Just out of prison. Never had much money. Shy, but defended. Capable of intense volatility: has a simmering anger and humor just underneath the surface. Sharp edges.

B
Teens. Andy’s son. Mixed-race (his mother is Caucasian, his father was African-American). Shy like his mother, but with a quiet intelligence. Physically slight. Not comfortable in his own skin. Capable of communicating deep and shifting emotional life with few words.

RICK
Early to mid-30s. Caucasian. Andy's boss, low-level management. A former athlete gone soft. Friendly, average. Over time we see he's wrestling with something darker.

SIMON
Teens. Caucasian. B's friend. Lots of bravado. Fancies himself a rapper. Still a scared kid underneath that.

SARAH
30s to early 40s. Caucasian. A woman who befriends Andy in the grocery store. Warm; open. Better educated than Andy and better off financially.
Performers of all ethnic and racial backgrounds are encouraged to attend.
