Seeking:

Actor

He switches back and forth between being the play's "narrator" and a character named Sam. As a narrator he places the events of the play in context, interjecting footnotes, qualifying asides, and should project both confidence and warmth. As Sam, he is a man dying from the plague, and sees clearly what is most important in life. The movement between the two roles is fluid, effortless, clean, and precise. Age: 35 to 40.

Catherine

An apothecary. Mid-30s. She is sharp and tough and warm. No one in this world is closer to Isaac Newton than Catherine. You might say they are dating, but Isaac doesn't really date. In fact, she is trying to sort out where she stands in Isaac's life. She wants a lifelong companion. (She'd also like a child.) Up until now, she thought Isaac was her lifelong companion. She is starting to realize she might have been wrong.

The following roles have been cast. Seeing only possible replacements

Isaac Newton:

CAST. 25, a science prodigy He is single minded, devoted to his pursuit of scientific understanding. Emotionally immature, he has a childish cruel streak that emerges when he is challenged.

Robert Hooke:

CAST. 45, rock star of the science world. Hooke is a hedonist who doesn't believe in rules, trying anything he thinks of to make discoveries and to keep life interesting.
