Breakdown

Update 6/1: Vocal Types added to roles

Seeking actors with strong musical abilities.

HADES:
Bass. 40s-60s, male. Caucasian. Lord of the Dead. Powerful, immortal and deeply in love with Persephone. Needs to have a major seductive power and strong authoritative presence. Tyrannical and a bit menacing. Could be a true bass.

PERSEPHONE:
Alto/Mezzo. 40s to 60s, female, any ethnicity. Goddess, playful, mercurial, fun and sexy. Persephone is not too feminine and lets her sharp edges show. She is the seasons and is cut from the same cloth as Orpheus. She must have a wryness and intelligence that she uses sharply for both entertainment and as a defense mechanism.

ORPHEUS:
High Tenor. 20s to 30s, male, any ethnicity. Should feel like a perfect match for Eurydice. Orpheus is the unpredictable, the wanderer artist who desperately tries to get himself together over the course of the piece. There should be something special about his pipes, and he needs to be a musician of some kind. Not a conventionally handsome leading man, Orpheus should feel unique and have the sensitive soul of an artist.

HERMES:
Baritone. Late 20s-40s, male, any ethnicity. Hermes is a musician and a trickster. He is charismatic and warm with a folksy vernacular. He is a guy you want to hang out with. Hermes is the storyteller of the piece.

EURYDICE:
Soprano. 20s to early 30s, female, any ethnicity. A practical leaning heroine with an extremely vulnerable underbelly. Gets in the dirt and farms to feed herself and Orpheus. She takes the leap to the underworld as a step towards something reliable. There is a delicacy in her both her being and her singing- pure and subtle.

FATE 1:
Alto/Mezzo. Any age, female, any ethnicity. Powerful and dark. Operates as one of the “voices in the heads” of the other characters. Needs to play an instrument of some kind and be skilled with harmonies.

FATE 2:
Alto/Mezzo. Any age, female, any ethnicity. Powerful and dark. Operates as one of the “voices in the heads” of the other characters. Needs to play an instrument of some kind and be skilled with harmonies.

FATE 3:
Alto/Mezzo. Any age, female, any ethnicity. Powerful and dark. Operates as one of the “voices in the heads” of the other characters. Needs to play an instrument of some kind and be skilled with harmonies.
