Breakdown

LEADING CHARACTERS:

The Actor: (30s-40s) Classic leading man who impersonates “the Guardsman” to seduce his actress-wife. Handsome, sexy, charming, flamboyant, and at times neurotic. Vocal range: Baritone (low A to F# above middle C)

The Actress: (30s-40s) Beautiful leading actress eager to keep her sexual flame alive. Witty, romantic and adventurous. Vocal range: Soprano (low B below middle C to high A flat)

The Playwright: (40-50) The confidante to both the Actor and the Actress who also serves as a narrator. Ironic, witty and sophisticated, with true charm and warmth. Vocal range:
Baritone (low A to D# above middle C), can talk-sing ala Rex Harrison.


ENSEMBLE CHARACTERS:

The Dresser: (30-50) Straight-talking, no nonsense woman who lives vicariously through the Actress. Vocal range: Mezzo Soprano

The Wig Master: (30-50) Worldly man of the theatre, and the only romantically satisfied character in the play. Vocal range: Tenor (with a low B)

The Wardrobe Mistress: (20s) Naïve, innocent, classic ingénue in love with the theatre. Vocal range: Soprano (to high B flat)

The Assistant Stage Manager: (20s) Finicky and slightly rigid as stage managers can be. Vocal range: Baritone (with a high tessitura)
