Breakdown

Boris Pasternak's epic novel of love and passion, set against the turmoil of the Russian Revolution, is a celebrated modern classic, and David Lean's film transformation was one of the great Hollywood epics. Now, the sweeping story of surgeon-poet Yurii Zhivago and Lara, the love of his life will continue its journey to the stage as a musical. The lush and soaring musical score captures the essence of forbidden romance in the time of revolution.

YOUNG YURII/SASHA
Between 9 and 12 years told to play younger. Plays younger version of YURII ZHIVAGO as well as YURII’s son later in the play. Sensitive, intense & intelligent child. Must convey European qualities. Requires strong singing from C# above middle C to the D-natural an octave-and-a-half-step above that. Principal role

YOUNG LARA/KATARINA
Between 9 and 12 years told to play younger. Plays younger version of LARA ANTIPOVA as well as YURII & LARA’s daughter, KATARINA, later in the play. Nurturing, intelligent, impetuous and passionate. Requires strong singing from Bb below middle C to the D-natural an octave-and-a-third above that, high Eb would be a plus. Principal role

YOUNG TONIA/COVER FOR YOUNG LARA
Between 9 and 12 years told to play younger. Plays younger version of TONIA and covers the role of YOUNG LARA. Lovely, perky, and edgy. Requires strong singing from Bb below middle C to the D-natural an octave-and-a-third above that, high Eb would be a plus. Principal role
