BREAKDOWN

NOTE: Join Karen, Dawn, Sheila, and Meg as they get together to watch a chick flick and play their favorite drinking game! As the festivities proceed and the beverages flow, they each divulge that their lives haven’t quite turned out the way they’d hoped. When they view themselves with the same kindness, humor and reverence that their friends do, they learn how to make real life better than the movies. Chick Flick The Musical doesn’t make fun of chick flicks at all – it seeks to validate the legitimate feminine side of these movies and allow the audience to relate strongly to the values of love, romance, family, and commitment. Above all, the show is a celebration of friendship and love between these four women. All the actresses must have a wonderful sense of humor, charisma, and warmth, as well as being superb Pop Rock singers.

SEEKING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:

KAREN THOMPSON: Early to Mid 40s. Any ethnicity. Karen, a well-heeled socialite with a penchant for chairing Galas; she always appears to be the most pulled together person in the room. A perfectionist, whose zany side has started to fade as life has pointed her towards her commitment to others. Fiercely intelligent, with a witty and wry sense of humor. Likeable, and in no way a snob.
Vocal Range: Mature Pop soprano (G2 to D5, mix to F5)

DAWN DEMONTE: Early to Mid-40s. Any ethnicity. An actress who is always the life of the party. She still tries to live like she's in her 20's and makes no apologies about it. Spontaneous and brash, she lives each moment passionately and likes to be the center of attention. She has let her career drift a bit. It’s not that she doesn’t have talent – it’s the age bracket she’s running into and the lack of roles. She is struggling to navigate those waters. Bold, ballsy, sensual and confident, with a big sense of humor. Actress must be proficient with a British accent when needed.
Vocal Range: Mature pop mezzo with belt (G3 to D5)

SHEILA BLACK: Early to mid-30s. Any ethnicity. A greeting card designer, Shelia is an eternal optimist with an open-heart and seemingly unbreakable spirit. Finding herself waist deep in online dating life, she feverishly leaves no stone unturned, despite a growing pile of disappointments. She is obsessed with Chick Flicks and is holding out for her Hollywood happy ending. Kind, sweet and a little naïve. She doesn’t have a mean bone in her body. She is the emotional ribbon that runs through the show.
Vocal Range: Pop soprano (B3 to Eb5, mix to A5)

MEG SMITH: Early to mid-30s. Any ethnicity. Meg is a successful baker who owns her own catering business. She is boisterous and funny in a self-deprecating way, often using humor to deflect tension. She has a combination of strength and vulnerability, and is always willing to give people second, sometimes third chances, often to her own detriment. Meg’s apparent expertise and control in her business life contrasts with her struggles in romantic relationships. A lover of sweets, she’s been known to sometimes eat her feelings. Tender-hearted and spunky.
Vocal Range: Soulful mezzo (F3 to Db5)

Actors of all ethnicities are encouraged to attend
