Seeking
Equity Ensemble Dancers who sing:
Strong actors, singers and dancers who are comfortable dancing contemporary and classical styles. Stage combat experience and facility with dialects are also a plus.

Preparation
Come warmed up & in dance clothes. Dancers will be asked to be bare foot.

Also prepare 32 bars of a contemporary musical theatre song (not pop/rock) that shows acting/vocal range in case asked to stay & sing. Bring sheet music; accompanist provided.

Bring picture and resume, stapled together.

Breakdown

ENSEMBLE
Looking for a large ensemble of all ethnicities and ages to play characters who are Caucasian and African-American, ages 18-40s. Especially seeking performers who are all strong actors, singers and dancers who are comfortable dancing contemporary and classical styles. Stage combat experience and facility with dialects are also a plus. They will understudy the principals and play Citizens, Villagers, Abolitionists, Redcoats, Bar Patrons, Sailors, African Warriors, and a myriad of speaking roles throughout including:

MALE ENGLISH ENSEMBLE

Male English Ensemble #1
MR. QUIGLEY: (Baritone, Caucasian - 25 to 35) British Dialect A founding member of the abolitionist movement in Chatham, Quigley is intelligent, skeptical and secretive both by nature and necessity. Plus Ensemble.

Male English Ensemble #2
RABBI EINHORN: (Bari-tenor, Caucasian – 40’s) German Dialect An itinerant Rabbi of German extraction he serves the small Jewish community in Chatham. Patient, far-sighted, and prudent, he is a calming influence within the underground abolitionist movement. Plus Ensemble.

Male English Ensemble #3
MR. WHITLEY: (Tenor, Caucasian – 40’s) British Dialect (RP) Whitley is Mary's vocal tutor and conductor of both the church choir and town orchestra. He is portly, nervous and eager to have his protégé rise in the world of music. Plus Ensemble.

Male English Ensemble #4
MONSIEUR CLOW: (Baritone, Caucasian – 30’s) French Dialect Advisor and ally of Princess Peyai. Clow is nationalistic and pragmatic. He manages the Princess through flattery and motivates her with promises of wealth. Plus Ensemble and Understudy Captain Newton.

Male English Ensemble #5
BRIGGS: (Bari-tenor, Caucasian – 30’s) British Dialect First Mate of the HMS Harwich. An acquaintance of Major Gray. Ruthless and conniving, he did not get where he is by making friends. Plus Ensemble.

Male English Ensemble #6
FREDERICK, PRINCE OF WALES: (Caucasian – 40’s) British Dialect (RP) Heir to the throne of Great Britain, Frederick is an aberration in the royal family because he is reform-minded and seeks a Britain less beholden to the landed and merchant classes. Intelligent and insightful, his wit can turn acerbic if he is provoked. Plus Ensemble & Understudy Major Gray.

MR. TYLER: (Baritone, African/African-American – 25 to 35) African Dialect An emancipated African slave he is a secret firebrand for the liberation of his people. Imposing and single minded, he is the most radical of the abolitionists. Plus Ensemble.

ELIZABETH NEWTON: (Caucasian - Ideally a strong classical violinist – 25 to 35) Beautiful and ethereal. Seen only as an apparition. Mrs. Newton is John’s deceased mother having died quite young. In life she was a violin virtuoso and music teacher. Nurturing and keen-witted, she was devoted to God, her son and her students in that order.

MRS. CATLETT: (Caucasian, 40’s) British Dialect (RP) Mary's controlling mother. Stolid and traditional, she seeks to preserve the status quo and keep Mary within society's expectations. Plus Ensemble.

KONAH: (African/African-American, 20’s) African Dialect Konah is Nanna’s daughter, now a domestic slave to Princess Peyai in Africa. She is compassionate but deeply wounded by the sale of her mother. Plus Ensemble.
