Detroit playwright Laura Heikkinen's newest play, Small Hours Serenade, will have its world premiere produced by Puzzle Piece Theatre this Spring. The play's four characters navigate relationships which blur the lines between perception and reality. The production opens tonight, March 27th and runs through Sunday April 13th at The Box Theater in downtown Mt. Clemens located at 90 Macomb Place, Mt Clemens, MI 48043. Performances begin at 8pm Thursday-Saturday and Sundays at 2pm. Tickets for Small Hours Serenade are $20 and can be purchased from the theatre's website www.puzzlestage.org.

Heikkinen, named Puzzle Piece's Associate Artistic Director last October, says her play began with the idea of "cross roads where each character had their own little corner. They work their way to meet in the middle". Her first play Chiseled was included in Wayne State University's 2013 Louise Heck-Rabi One Act Festival. The Detroit Theatre Examiner said that that play, "is open to much interpretation and is sure to stimulate conversation regarding what we "thought" happened". Small Hours Serenade will provoke a similar response with its dream like qualities and unique characters.

Puzzle Piece Theatre's production will be directed by Producing Artistic Director D.B. Schroeder. "Laura's voice is very contemporary-- grounded in the present but would fit in perfectly with the Absurdist movement of the 50s and 60s" offers Schroeder. "I think it is vital for theatre companies to find opportunities to bring new playwrights to audience's attention. Small Hours Serenade is the perfect way to close our 2013-14 season."
