Do you believe you have an awesome Halloween costume? Wait til you see what they have on stage at Meadowbrook Theatre's season opener, THE EXPLORER'S CLUB. There is a blue savage, Victorian lady, Irish assassin, Napoleon wannabe, snake-wielding nut, and lots more in this colorful and wacky British farce.

EXPLORER'S CLUB opened Meadowbrook Theatre's 50th season on October 10 followed by a spectacular afterglow, featuring 50 or so high-end spirits to sample, trays of pasta and meatballs, platters of meats with cheeses, and wonderful boxes of Sander's chocolates to take home. This was an opening night to remember!

The British face will resonate strongly with anyone who knows really weird anthropologists or behavioral scientists. The story begins in London, 1879. The prestigious Explorers Club is in crisis: their acting president wants to admit a woman, and their bartender is terrible. True, this female candidate is brilliant, beautiful, and has discovered a legendary Lost City, but letting a woman in could shake the very foundation of the British Empire, and how do you make such a decision without a decent drink? Grab your safety goggles for some very mad science involving deadly cobras, irate Irishmen and the occasional airship.

Every show Meadowbrook Theatre produces is first class entertainment. They never fail to please. This particular show has an amazing set with real taxidermy trophies and equisite wood panel walls. A giant giraffe rug on the floor and amazing costumes makes this show a feast for the eyes!

The Michigan Premiere of The Explorers Club is the first production in Meadow Brook Theatre's impressive 50th Anniversary Season. The Explorers Club plays at Meadow Brook Theatre on the campus of Oakland University through November 1. The show stars MBT audience favorites Rusty Mewha as Lucius Fretway, Phil Powers as Professor Cope, Chip DuFord as Professor Walling, Hugh Maguire at Professor Sloane, Lucas Wells as Luigi, Wayne David Parker as Harry Percy, Thomas D. Mahard as Sir Bernard Humphries, Craig Bentley as Beebe and Cheryl Turski as Phyllida Spotte-Hume and Countess Glamorgan.
