Des Moines Metro Opera presents a free outdoor screening of its Emmy Award-winning broadcast of Carmen, recorded live at the Blank Performing Arts Center during the 2023 Festival Season. First performed in Paris in 1875, Carmen follows the free-spirited Carmen, whose passionate affair with the soldier Don Jose turns dangerous when the bullfighter Escamillo catches her eye. The presentation includes behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with cast and creative team members, and is sung in French with English captions. Guests are invited to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and picnics, with food trucks and a biergarten available before the screening.
