BWW Previews: Disney's THE LION KING and More In Des Moines this April

Theaters will be packed across Des Moines this month with shows for every kind of audience.

Let your imagination take flight when The Des Moines Playhouse presents Around the World in 80 Days. Written by Mark Brown, based on the book by Jules Verne, Around the World follows the adventurer Phileas Fogg on a race to circle the globe in only 80 days. Five actors portray thirty-nine characters across seven continents, so this is guaranteed to be a whirlwind worth remembering. Around the World in 80 Days runs April 10-26th. For a different audience, Des Moines Performing Arts presents Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man April 14-19th. The play is set at a university auditorium during a visiting authors event. The author of Sex Tips directly halts the moderator's attempt to have a scholarly discussion because he would rather entertaini the audience with his salacious sex tips. Repertory Theater of Iowa presents the classic Diary of Anne Frank. The play is adapted from Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, a diary kept by a young Jewish girl Anne Frank during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands during World War II. The diary kept by Anne Frank during two years in hiding is a testament to the fact that hope can be found in even the most hopeless times. For ticket information visit Repertory Theater of Iowa.

Rounding out the month, Disney's The Lion King roars back to Des Moines with a three-week engagement beginning on April 28th. The stage adaptation of the classic animated film continues to take the world by storm with its' innovative costumes, set design and music. Since debuting in 1997, The Lion King has showed little sign on slowing down and is now the fourth longest running show in Broadway history. The Lion King will play in Des Moines April 28-May 17th.
