SILENT SKY tells the true story of Henrietta Leavitt, an astronomer ahead of her time. It is 1900, and Henrietta has the opportunity to work at Harvard University as a human computer mapping the stars but receiving no scientific credit.When Henrietta arrives, she is eager to use Harvards telescope - the Great Refractor - but is told that she will not be able to do any sort of astronomical discovery as she will only log the stars photographed by the men of the department. Because she was born into an age where women did not pursue such things, the struggle for equality is brought to vivid life.However, Henrietta will not be dissuaded, and begins the process of recording the changes in Cepheid stars - a scientific discovery that has profound and lasting impact on the field of astronomy.During her inquiry, Henriettas relationships strain under her obsessive work ethic; her sister Margaret, her love interest Peter Shaw, and her colleagues Annie Cannon and Williamina Fleming all find themselves pushed aside in favor of a great cosmic mystery.SILENT SKY is the poignant tale of a womans dedication to the stars, and the human touch that makes life under the vast sky beautiful and timeless.

May 26, 2021 Possum Point Players' new outdoor stage started with a hopeful rainbow, then became furnished as a Pennsylvania country house sunroom, and has now transitioned into a look into the vastness of the stars in the sky that wraps around our earth and stage. 'Silent Sky,' based on the life of pioneering female astronomer, Henrietta Leavitt, opens Friday, June 4, outdoors under the night sky at Possum Hall.
SILENT SKY Will Be Performed by Possum Point Players in June
May 15, 2021 The title may be 'Silent Sky,' but it's time to talk out loud about the next mainstage production coming to Possum Point Players. Set for June 4, 5, 6, 11, 12 and 13, it tells the true story of a pioneering woman astronomer who broke a sky-high glass ceiling as she pursued her love of studying and living her dream among the stars.
