The Urbana Dance Company L L C

The Urbana Dance Company is an inclusive dance studio on the second floor at 122 West Main Street in downtown Urbana, Illinois. Founded as a performance group in 2012 by owner and artistic director Kate Insolia, who holds a BA in dance from Sarah Lawrence and an MFA from the University of Illinois, it is grounded in creative movement and serves both adults and children. Weekly classes span Latin styles including salsa, bachata, cha-cha and kizomba, Argentine tango, contact improvisation, hip hop, modern and contemporary, belly dance, K-pop and heels, taught by a large roster of local and visiting instructors. The studio hosts Latin dance nights with a resident DJ on the second and fourth Fridays of the month, weekend workshops with visiting instructors, and a Dance Artist Residency Program. The company's own choreography addresses social themes including racism, classism and sexism. Studio space is also available for rent.
