About this studio
SpectorDance is a Monterey County dance company and 501(c)(3) non-profit founded and directed by Fran Spector Atkins, whose stated mission is to create and present dance that makes a difference. Alongside its repertory works - including the Ocean Trilogy, East West, Common Ground and the work-in-progress Wildfires - it produces the Ocean Arts Festival, King City Dance Week, a Choreographers' Showcase and school engagement programs linking dance with environmental literacy. Its teaching arm now runs at the YMCA of the Monterey Peninsula, where Amy Byington, formerly director of the SpectorDance School and Youth Company, teaches ballet, tap and jazz for all ages and levels.
