Ragamala Dance Company is a Minneapolis-based company and school working in the South Indian classical form Bharatanatyam, under the direction of Ranee Ramaswamy and Aparna Ramaswamy. Its repertory explores the tension between the ancestral and the contemporary, drawing on Indian myth and spirituality and on the immigrant question of how to preserve an inheritance in a new place; and the company tours nationally and internationally. Teaching happens through the Ragamala Training Center, which immerses students of all ages in South Indian arts and culture with the aim of building confidence, self-esteem and discipline, and enrols annually for the school year. The company also runs community engagement programs, workshops, lecture-demonstrations and digital educational sessions.
