Kripalaya Dance Academy has taught Indian dance in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area since 2002, working from a dedicated studio and describing itself as Tulsa's premier Indian dance academy. Its core discipline is Bharatanatyam, the South Indian classical form, offered to students from age 5 upward, alongside semi-classical, folk, Bollywood, Tollywood, Kollywood and fusion styles for all age groups. All students begin with basic footwork, postures, mudras and theory, and work on flexibility and understanding of the different forms; intermediate and advanced dancers progress to more complicated footwork and intricate choreography. Classes last one hour and run once a week, with tuition billed monthly, registration taken in person, and private classes available on request. Students are expected to practice at least 20 minutes daily. The school hosts an annual Vijaya Dasami recital, guides senior students through their arangetram debut solos, and performs at community events including Tamil Koottam, Ugadi and IAGT Diwali Night, as well as with Tulsa Opera.
